Description: |
The canal opens for navigation in the middle of May and closes after Thanksgiving in mid October. It is 386 km long and makes it way through Central Ontario. It takes roughly a week to travel the full length of the Waterway by boat. Passing through 36 conventional locks, 2 sets of flight locks, two of the world's highest hydraulic lift locks and a marine railway are all part of the adventure. | |

Since 1982 the Friends of the Trent-Severn Waterway (FTSW) have worked closely with Waterway staff, researching and publishing books, organizing special events, producing newsletters and more. Membership in this non-profit organization is a great way to find out more about the Waterway's natural and historic heritage. Your contribution will help to ensure the continuation of this important work. Gift shops containing a fine selection of books, nautical charts and souvenirs are located at the Peterborough Lift Lock, Kirkfield Lift Lock and the Big Chute Marine Railway. There is also a mail-order service for those further afield. Members receive a 10% discount on most purchases. | |
